Why choosing the right tech PR agency can transform your brand

What makes a technology company stand out in a crowded market? It is not just innovation. It is not just funding rounds or product launches. It is the ability to communicate a compelling story that customers, investors and stakeholders genuinely connect with. As a tech PR agency, at Duo Consulting, we partner ambitious businesses to turn complex ideas into clear, engaging narratives that build trust and drive growth. Why does strategic communication matter so much in the technology sector? Technology moves quickly. Markets evolve, competitors emerge and audience expectations shift constantly. Businesses need more than occasional press coverage; they need a communications strategy that positions them as leaders within their industry. As a trusted communications consultancy, we work closely with brands to shape and convey messaging that resonates across media, stakeholders and target audiences alike. From scaling start-ups to established international organisations, we create communications that deliver long-term impact. What does a modern PR agency for tech companies actually do? We do far more than secure headlines. We become an extension of your team, helping you define your voice, sharpen your positioning and decide how best to engage your audiences – ultimately to successfully strengthen your reputation. Our work spans strategic communications, media relations, stakeholder engagement, messaging development, and profile raising for leadership teams. Whether a business is entering or scaling in the UK market, expanding internationally or launching a new proposition, we tailor every campaign to align with their commercial goals. How do we approach client partnerships differently? At Duo Consulting, we believe strong communications come from collaboration. For our clients, that means working directly with senior consultants who understand both strategic thinking and practical execution. Rather than layering projects through multiple levels of management, we focus on building tight teams and close working relationships that allow us to respond quickly, think creatively, and deliver meaningful results. As a reliable and trusted communications consultancy, with numerous testimonials to prove this, our approach is flexible, scalable and designed around each client’s objectives. What kind of businesses do we support? We work with innovative organisations across technology, B2B, and corporate sectors, including international companies expanding into the UK and European markets. Many of our clients need support establishing brand visibility, building media and other third-party relationships, and creating communications strategies that align with their wider business ambitions. As a PR agency for tech companies, we understand how important it is to create credibility in new markets while maintaining consistent global messaging. What is the ultimate goal of effective PR and communications? It is about creating influence, trust and visibility that supports business growth. Great communications are not simply about being seen; they are about being remembered for the right reasons. As a tech PR agency, we help businesses tell stories that inspire confidence, strengthen reputation, and open the door to new opportunities. Image Credit: Pixabay on Pexels
Unlocking impact with strategic communication: PR that makes a difference

In an age where every organisation competes for attention, a strategic approach to how and what you communicate can make or break whether your business reaches its full potential. At Duo Consulting we see strategic communication and PR as both an art and a discipline: connecting what you do with the people who matter most, and creating influence that’s measurable and meaningful. The heart of strategic communication Strategic communication is about more than opportunistic press releases or media mentions. It’s a thoughtful process that aligns your organisational goals with how you are perceived by your audiences. At its core, strategic communication is informed by business objectives, with narrative development and targeted outreach that deliver clarity, relevance and resonance. Rather than reactive activity, it is proactive and purposeful. It’s about knowing who you need to reach, understanding what they care about, where they engage, and crafting communications that influence their perception and behaviour. Well-planned strategic communication ensures that every message adds to a coherent reputation story. It helps organisations anticipate questions and issues before they arise, respond with the right tone when they do and take control of their narrative in an increasingly complex media landscape. How PR fuels growth Strong PR directly supports organisational growth. By investing in thoughtful messaging and a consistent narrative that speaks to the right stakeholders, brands can create visibility that builds credibility and trust. A comprehensive PR strategy enables organisations to position themselves as thought leaders, not only within their sector but also in the minds of clients, investors and wider audiences. Media relations play a critical role. When journalists, analysts and industry voices come to know your story, your work and your expertise, the result is earned coverage that can amplify your presence without hefty advertising budgets. PR turns your news into opportunity and your expertise into authority. Leading with insight and clarity At Duo Consulting, we emphasise research and insight as the foundation of strategic communication. By understanding market dynamics, audience behaviour and competitive positioning, we help our clients build strategies that are grounded in evidence rather than guesswork. Mapping key stakeholders and analysing media trends means your communications are targeted, timely and relevant. Narrative and messaging development then brings these insights to life, ensuring that internal teams and external audiences are aligned around a compelling and consistent story. Through thoughtful execution across earned media, content creation and stakeholder engagement, strategic communication & PR become a tool for long-term reputation enhancement and business success. Bringing it all together Strategic communication & PR shouldn’t be seen as optional in today’s interconnected world. They’re a deliberate commercial function that can drive brand awareness, shape perception and support sustainable growth. By investing in communication that is purposeful and expertly crafted, organisations can navigate change confidently, engage more meaningfully with their audiences and stand out in an increasingly crowded space. Whether you are entering new markets or strengthening your position in existing ones, effective PR and strategic communication can make all the difference between being heard and being remembered. A Q&A with Duo Consulting MD, Dan Sheridan

June 2026 Duo’s Managing Director, Dan Sheridan, was recently invited by Insider Media to answer a series of questions for the PR agency review in the June issue of North West Business Insider. Here’s the full Q&A on Duo and what we’re seeing in the industry right now. What was the original idea behind setting up Duo, and what gap in the market were you trying to fill at the time? More experienced PR and communications professionals than ever before are choosing to freelance, driven by the flexibility missing from traditional agency and in-house roles. Duo taps into this wealth of self-employed talent. All our clients work directly with senior consultants who are outstanding at what they do – and whose focus is on applying their expertise, not managing layers of people. This approach ensures that our clients receive expertise tailored to their specific needs, engage with passionate consultants eager to collaborate, and benefit from the seniority that fosters immediate and trusted, peer-like relationships. You’ve carved out a niche supporting international businesses entering the UK. How did that specialism come about? International business is a love of mine and a passion shared by Duo colleagues. I spent two years in Singapore running APAC corporate communications for a Nasdaq-listed global tech firm. I gained a reputation amongst my UK connections for understanding international markets and adapting to work with different cultures. Before founding Duo, I supported international clients entering and scaling in the UK market and we’ve today made this a specialism, so far supporting several American, Australian, Chinese and European businesses. Why is Manchester proving attractive for those international brands, and what role does communications play in that journey? Much like legal and accounting specialists are hired by international brands entering our market, investing in an understanding of your UK target audience and how to best communicate your story can have a massive impact on go-to-market success. It helps quickly establish awareness, understanding and trust. Today, top global comms and PR talent can be found in Manchester, meaning brands basing themselves here don’t have to default to London. International businesses landing and expanding in Manchester also benefit from strong support across regional media, events and other third-party channels, all of which want to champion these businesses as part of the city region’s growth story – it really helps brands hit the ground running and doesn’t happen in London. Your model relies on senior, self employed consultants. What are the advantages of that approach compared to a traditional agency structure? Senior, self-employed consultants are focused on delivering for clients, not on the distraction of managing people or reviewing the quality of others’ work – the time they spend is all client-focused. This model also means we can build small, high performance client teams where we bring the best knowledge and ability to fit every client’s requirements – nobody is made to work on something simply because they have capacity and we can align personality and culture fit to immediately strengthen working relationships. We can also more easily scale up and down with this agile model, something increasingly attractive in a world where priorities, budgets and opportunities can quickly change. In a crowded market, what else genuinely makes Duo stand out from other B2B and tech agencies? Clients want smart counsel, excellent dependable service and great value. We deliver this from a core team and wider network made up of former London and Manchester PR agency directors and in-house communications leaders, while maintaining modest overheads. Well-compensated, well-motivated experienced consultants who’ve worked for major agencies and the biggest brands now come without the price tag. You’ve achieved strong year on year growth. What have been the key drivers behind that momentum? We’ve focused on building our international niche supporting businesses scaling in the UK, and on developing our reputation in Manchester – we were delighted to be named GM Chamber of Commerce ‘Micro Business of the Year’ for 2025. This has led to recently winning further Australian client work in the AI and payments spaces, as well as our first Chinese client – a fast-growing global consumer electronics brand. As a young agency, we’re letting the PR success of the businesses we work with – such as SafetyCulture, Vypr, and Manchester Building Society – do the talking. What do your most successful client relationships have in common? What’s the ‘secret’ to maintaining a good relationship with a client? The best relationships are treated as partnerships, where our clients have the internal capacity to provide a clear brief, quickly turn things around, and maintain weekly dialogue on priorities and opportunities. Clients who commit to retained support also realise the benefit of that investment over the long term as our consultants become a valued extension of their team, providing trusted counsel and strategic guidance as well as weekly delivery. How are clients’ expectations of PR changing, particularly in sectors like tech and fintech? Clients recognise the importance of authenticity and connection in an increasingly noisy digital world. Recently, we’ve been delivering more talking head video content for LinkedIn and supporting clients with their own hosted events that help forge and strengthen relationships with customers, partners, prospects and media. The importance of AI search visibility is understood and that earned media has an important role to play in positioning an organisation as a leader in its space. How do you see the role of PR agencies evolving over the next few years, and where does Duo fit into that future? PR agencies have always been dynamic, adapting to digital innovation and evolving reputation management demands. I see this continuing with the advancement of AI. PR will be central to ensuring genuine stories are told, the right people are connected, and that organisations have brand guardians to turn to when they need them. Duo’s agile model with self-employed senior consultants, and working with both UK and internationally founded businesses, means we can adapt immediately to where opportunities
Why strategic communications matters more than ever in a noisy world

We live in an age where attention is fragmented and trust is fragile. Businesses are no longer competing solely on products or services, but on perception. So how do you ensure your voice is heard above the constant stream of content? And more importantly, how do you make it matter? This is where a reliable PR and communications agency plays a crucial role. But modern communications is no longer just about press coverage or reactive messaging. It is about shaping narratives, building credibility and influencing how audiences think and feel over time. Beyond publicity: The power of strategic communications At its core, strategic communications is about intent. It asks not just what do we want to say? But why does it matter to our audience? And how will it drive meaningful outcomes? As a professional PR and communications agency, at Duo Consulting, we focus on aligning communication with business objectives. Whether your goal is to support growth, enter new markets, or strengthen your reputation, every message must serve a clear purpose. This approach is especially critical for ambitious organisations looking to scale in industries where clarity and consistency can define success. But here’s a key question: are your communications proactive or reactive? Businesses that rely purely on reactive PR often struggle to maintain control of their narrative. A strategic communications approach flips that dynamic, allowing organisations to lead conversations rather than follow them. Building reputation that lasts Reputation is not built overnight. It is shaped through consistent messaging, strong storytelling and meaningful engagement with stakeholders. As a PR and communications agency, we do more than secure visibility. We help organisations understand their audiences, identify key issues and craft messages that resonate. We take the deep industry and customer knowledge that sits within our clients’ organisations and help to translate this through compelling PR. This includes everything from media relations and thought leadership to stakeholder engagement and executive positioning. For businesses expanding into new markets, the challenge becomes even greater. How do you translate your brand into a new cultural and commercial landscape? Strategic communications provides the framework to adapt messaging, ensuring it connects with local audiences while maintaining global consistency. A smarter approach to growth Ultimately, working with a PR and communications agency should not feel like outsourcing a function. It should feel like gaining a strategic partner. At Duo Consulting, by combining insight, experience and a deep understanding of communications, we help organisations not only gain attention but earn trust. And in today’s landscape, trust is the most valuable currency of all. So, the real question is not whether your business needs communications support. It is whether your communications are truly working hard enough to support the ambitions of your business. Image credit: Tom Parsons on Unsplash
The importance of preparing strong communications for UK market entry

Entering the UK market presents a unique set of communications challenges, particularly in fast-evolving cities like London and Manchester. While opportunities are significant, so too is the competition. Businesses quickly discover that a strong reputation in their home country does not automatically translate across borders. Instead, success depends on how well your messaging aligns with British expectations, media norms and stakeholder behaviours. This is where our Duo PR and communications agency team comes in. We focus on shaping narratives that resonate locally while remaining true to a brand’s global identity. By combining established messaging with an understanding of regional dynamics, we help international organisations avoid common pitfalls such as confused positioning and inconsistent language. Bridging cultural and communication gaps One of the biggest hurdles international businesses face is cultural nuance. Communication in the UK is often more subtle, with differences in tone, humour and trust-building that can significantly impact how a message is received. Without local expertise, even well-crafted announcements and campaigns can miss the mark. For example, while U.S news announcements often tend towards descriptive headlines and long explanations, with press releases distributed on newswires, British media want to immediately know why the news matters, see concise journalistic language, uncliched and insightful quotes, and professional imagery. At our PR and communications agency, we work in close collaboration with our clients to translate their established messaging into something that feels authentic to UK audiences. This goes beyond simple localisation. It involves understanding how different stakeholders think, what drives media interest and how credibility is built over time. Turning strategy into meaningful visibility Too often, businesses approach PR tactically, focusing on quick wins such as a launch press release without a clear long-term narrative and supporting plan. In cities like London and Manchester, where industries from tech to finance are rapidly expanding, this approach rarely delivers sustained impact. We prioritise strategy first. From defining a compelling brand story, to identifying the right audiences and collaborating on how to connect with them, every activity is designed to support wider business objectives. Whether it’s media relations, thought leadership or stakeholder engagement, our work ensures that visibility translates into trust and growth. Supporting international growth from the ground up Manchester has become a powerful hub for innovation, attracting increased international investment and offering a cost-effective and strategically appealing alternative to London. However, tapping into this ecosystem requires more than presence; it requires integration. As a trusted PR and communications agency, at Duo Consulting, we act as a bridge between international teams and the UK market. We provide on-the-ground insight, build relationships with key media and industry figures and help our clients establish credibility in the region from day one. This includes everything from positioning senior executives as visible and influential thought leaders to securing meaningful media coverage that builds discoverability and cements long-term reputation. A flexible approach for modern businesses International clients often need agility, especially when operating across time zones and evolving markets. Traditional agency models can be rigid, making it difficult to adapt quickly. Alternatively, our approach is built around flexibility and senior expertise. By acting as an extension of our clients’ teams, we deliver tailored support that evolves with their needs. This ensures consistent messaging, strategic clarity and the ability to respond to challenges in real time. In a market as dynamic as the UK, effective PR is not just about visibility. It is about relevance, credibility and connection. Through a strategic and locally informed approach, our PR and communications agency provides the foundation international businesses need to succeed in the UK. Image credit: Szymon Shields on Plexels
Duo up for PRmoment agency award and secures new project briefs

April 2026 Duo Consulting has made a strong start to 2026, with award shortlistings and new client projects that play to its international strengths. The business is a finalist for Micro Agency of the Year at the PRmoment Awards, which celebrate excellence and recognise outstanding campaigns and exceptional talent across the UK PR and communications sector. Duo’s entry highlighted its role in supporting international businesses to enter and scale in the UK market, as well as its agile, senior-led team approach. The shortlisting coincides with a series of new project briefs from international companies entering and scaling in the UK. These include Australian-founded Lorikeet, an AI concierge reinventing customer experience in regulated industries; Mint Payments, a travel industry payments specialist also headquartered in Australia with a UK expansion strategy; and Aiper, a Chinese consumer electronics firm that has sold three million smart garden products globally. Dan Sheridan, founder and MD of Duo Consulting, said: “Being recognised by the industry judges at the PRmoment Awards represents a significant milestone in our journey as a young, agile agency built for a fast-evolving comms landscape. Our clients work directly with senior consultants who are outstanding at what they do – and whose focus is on applying their expertise, not managing layers of people. “The new project briefs we’ve been brought in on play to our strengths – helping international businesses understand UK audiences, stakeholders and media, refine their messaging so it resonates here, and ultimately raise their profile with target audiences.” The PRmoment agency award shortlisting follows Dan Sheridan’s recent shortlisting for Emerging Entrepreneur Leader and Marketing Leader at the 2026 North West Leadership Awards. Last October, Duo – which works with clients including SafetyCulture, Vypr, and Manchester Building Society – was named Micro Business of the Year at the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 Excellence Awards.
Why partnering with a Manchester PR agency can transform your business reputation

When it comes to building credibility, visibility and long-term trust, working with a Manchester PR agency can be a powerful step for ambitious businesses looking to scale in the UK. We’re based in the heart of the city, at 1 St Peter’s Square, with neighbours in our building including professional services and law firms such as KPMG, Addleshaw Goddard, and DLA Piper. Specialising in PR & Comms for UK and international clients, at Duo Consulting, we see first-hand how strategic public relations can shape perceptions, open doors and support sustainable growth. PR is no longer just about media coverage; it’s about creating clarity, confidence and consistency in how your brand shows up. The value of local insight combined with wider reach Choosing a Manchester PR agency brings a distinctive advantage. Manchester has established itself as one of the UK’s most influential commercial and cultural centres, attracting fast-growing businesses, investors and national media attention. As reported by the BBC, at 3.1% annual growth sustained over 10 years, Manchester’s economy has performed twice as well as that of the UK as a whole. A significant part of that story is the talent that has been attracted to the city region. As a PR partner rooted in this environment, and with our team of senior consultants spanning both the north and south of the country, we understand the nuances of how different cities think, talk and do business. That local insight allows the messaging we develop for regional communications to feel authentic, relevant and timely, while still having the structure and ambition needed to reach national and international audiences. Being close to the action also means stronger media relationships. Regional journalists, trade publications and business editors are more receptive when stories genuinely reflect what’s happening in their area. Our Manchester-based PR team knows how to shape those stories so they resonate locally and travel further. The same applies to comms work we do with a focus on other cities – both London and elsewhere. Strategic thinking that supports real business goals One of the most overlooked benefits of working with an experienced PR agency is strategic perspective. Effective PR isn’t reactive; it’s planned, measured and aligned with wider business objectives. From positioning leadership teams as credible voices in their sector to managing reputation during periods of growth or change, PR plays a vital role in shaping how stakeholders perceive your business. A senior-led Manchester PR agency provides considered advice, not just tactical execution. That means clearer narratives, stronger messaging and campaigns that support sales, recruitment, partnerships and investor confidence, rather than chasing coverage for coverage’s sake. Standing out in a crowded and competitive market Most industries are saturated with noise. Businesses are competing not only with direct rivals but with endless streams of content across digital and traditional channels. Strategic PR helps cut through that noise by focusing on what genuinely differentiates your brand. It brings structure to your story and consistency to your communications, ensuring audiences know who you are, what you stand for and why you matter. Working with a senior leaning and agile Manchester PR agency like Duo gives you the confidence that your reputation is being actively managed and strengthened. We focus on building trust over time, staying visible for the right reasons and being prepared for opportunities and challenges alike. Ultimately, partnering with the right PR agency is an investment in your brand’s future. With local expertise, strategic thinking and a clear understanding of the Manchester business landscape, PR becomes a powerful tool for growth, influence and long-term success.
Expanding to the UK: How strategic communication and media relations can drive Australian business success

For Australian businesses with global ambition, entering the UK market is an exciting but complex journey. The United Kingdom is a dynamic, competitive and influential market, offering opportunities across technology, B2B services, consumer sectors and corporate industries. But while the promise is clear, the path to success requires more than a good product or service: it demands careful strategy, clear messaging and trusted relationships. Australian companies in particular are increasingly recognising the UK as a natural step in their international growth. The historical ties between the two countries are strong and recent developments, such as the Australia‑UK Free Trade Agreement, have made trade and investment smoother than ever. Furthermore, the UK acts as a gateway to Europe, a hub for finance and technology and a market where regional credibility can enhance global reputation. For businesses willing to navigate the cultural and commercial nuances of this market, the potential rewards are significant. The power of strategic communication Entering the UK successfully starts with understanding the local environment. Strategic communication is more than crafting clever marketing messages; it is about aligning your business objectives with audience expectations and ensuring every piece of communication serves a clear purpose. For Australian companies, this means developing narratives that resonate with UK stakeholders, from customers to potential partners, from investors to prospective employees, in ways that are authentic, credible and culturally attuned. Thoughtful messaging positions businesses to stand out in a competitive landscape, building trust and confidence from the very first interaction. How media relations creates opportunity Media relations play an equally critical role. In a market where perception often drives opportunity, securing coverage in respected outlets and industry publications can accelerate credibility. For Australian businesses, media engagement provides a platform to tell their story, showcase expertise and establish leadership in their sector. Ask: what will my target customer find out about us when they search Google or ask their preferred LLM? These search tools all favour the independent authority of established news websites, particularly within vertical sectors. From national media to niche trade publications, the ability to capture attention in the right channels opens doors to partnerships, investment and customer growth. Effective media relations transform visibility into tangible business impact, moving beyond press mentions to create lasting influence. The consultancy advantage Partnering with a communications and PR consultancy brings a strategic advantage to this journey. Unlike traditional agencies that focus primarily on execution, our consultancy delivers senior-level insight, tailored guidance and a focus on long-term reputation-building. Our peer-to-peer approach ensures that communications are integrated with broader business strategy and that messaging is consistent across all touchpoints. This level of strategic oversight is essential for Australian companies seeking not just to launch in the UK but to grow sustainably and effectively. We act as an extension of our clients’ teams, particularly where they do not have in-house PR & communications in the UK or Europe. The strategic benefits for Australian businesses By working with a strategic communications and PR consultancy, Australian companies expanding to the UK gain enhanced understanding of the local market and its nuances, strengthening their initial market entry assessment, and enabling them to navigate complexities with confidence. Strong, strategically crafted messaging helps brands position themselves credibly and stand out in crowded sectors, particularly when the business originated overseas. Media relations accelerate recognition and trust, amplifying visibility among audiences who matter most; and over time, a consistent, thoughtful approach to communication builds lasting relationships and reinforces reputation; helping lay the foundation for sustained growth. Preparing for the future The UK market is evolving rapidly. Trade agreements, investment flows and collaborative initiatives are opening new opportunities for Australian firms across technology, digital innovation, advanced manufacturing, financial and professional services, healthcare, consumer brands and more. In this environment, communications excellence is not optional. It is a strategic tool that can determine whether a business simply enters the market or thrives within it. For Australian companies, the journey into the UK is about more than establishing a presence; it is about creating impact. By combining strategic communication, media relations and the guidance of an experienced communications and PR consultancy, businesses can build trust, strengthen reputation and accelerate growth. Whether launching operations, expanding market reach or engaging stakeholders, a thoughtful, strategic approach to communication ensures that investment in the UK market is set up for success.
